Fashion's Big Night Out |
I am both a Catwalk Kitten and a “Celtic Kitten,” having grown up during the Irish “Celtic Tiger” economic boom. Shopping has always been a big part of my life and I’m all for sharing its joys, especially as the retail sector is so depressed. Fashion’s Night Out is a shopping event organised by 13 editions of Vogue and the retailers in their respective capitals.
"To put it bluntly, if people don’t shop, people lose their jobs," Vera Wang told a press conference for the New York initiative. This September 10, the London leg gets underway and virtually every clothing store worth visiting keeping its doors open late. The plan is to remind everyone how much fun shopping in this city is, even if you’re CC isn’t gold, black, red, platinum, etc. Stores taking part range from Harvey Nicks to M&S.
The Vogue UK ladies are helping shop staff operate in-store activities like special personal appearances, makeovers and workshops. Lucinda Chambers, fashion director extraordinaire, also designed a limited-edition T-shirt for sale on the night. The top is silver and white with a cool chain print and looks great with leather pants, as Sienna Miller proves in the magazine’s August issue.
All the money raised from T-shirt sales is going to Crisis, the UK charity for the homeless.
