The Eyebrow Buzz |
Years ago I had a bit of an RTA, and there are scars in my left eyebrow to this day. Now, they don't usually intrude into my consciousness, but sometimes need a bit of a plucking to prevent a Mephistophelean air. Or maybe James Bond, as I can raise this eyebrow brilliantly.
As you get older, you do think about the various options out there for improving looks, and having the hairs missing from the scars tattooed back seemed a weird but interesting option.
Then the beautiful and elegant Sarah Jagger hove into view. Her eyebrows perfect, even her eyelids and lips enhanced with this expert micro-tattooing technique which can have quite startling, semi-permanent effects. She took one look, and said that both eyebrows must submit to the needle, and we chatted while she slathered on a local anaesthetic cream.
'I want people to look at you and not know it has been done,' she explains.' Just a little definition, a raised arch and a tapered end is sometimes all that’s needed to take 10 years of someone’s face.'
Sarah trained in Harley Street in the technique and operates out of the well-established hairdresser Martyn Maxey, at 18 Grosvenor Street, Mayfair (020 7629 6161). The idea is to tattoo the finest possible 'strokes' in the closest possible colour to the original eyebrow hairs, and 'growing' in the same direction. We went downstairs, and she set to work. I was slightly dreading it, but in fact it was just a faint buzzing sensation, nothing uncomfortable at all.
You have to keep applying Vaseline, can't get them wet, and won't be able to see the final effect for at least three days, when the tiny scabs fall off, revealing the fine strokes underneath. Then you can tidy up your eyebrows to match - lots of people find they don't need to go for waxing or threading, as the new eyebrows show them exactly where to pluck.
So far nobody has really noticed. Even in the darker, earlier stages. Eyebrows define the face, and the whole process will encourage me to take better care of them. As well as filling the scar gap for the first time since my accident. Will report back when I am in optimum condition next week.
